The Antagonist Paradox

"Antagonist - A person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary."

And yet, opposition is only what we perceive it to be. Every piece of fine art is a statement, judged by its audience, but it is only the author who knows the true meaning. The world of art is full of controversy, caused principally by observers, who cannot walk past a piece of canvas and paint, unoffended, thus labelling the artist as an antagonist. Like so many social phenomena, art controversy becomes a paradoxical misunderstanding.
